Practical Heat Crisis Preparedness

Make your home heat-resistant:

  • Exterior roller blinds (far more effective than interior blinds)
  • Night-time cross-ventilation when outside temperature < indoor temperature
  • Keep closed and darkened during the day

Secure water supply:

  • At least 3–4 liters per person per day during heat (vs. normal 2L)
  • Cooling bags and ice packs in the freezer as buffer

Protect vulnerable people:

  • Regular contact with elderly, children, chronically ill
  • Know cool retreat locations (libraries, shopping centers)

First aid for heat stroke: Recognize symptoms: confusion, hot dry skin, no sweating despite heat, consciousness disturbances

Immediate action: cooler environment, cool the body with wet cloth (neck, armpits, groin), call emergency services
